Recommended Course Selections For College-Bound Students
If you are thinking about continuing your education at a 2 or 4-year college, these are some recommendations as to which courses you should take while in high school. It is always best to take a college preparatory curriculum. Whenever possible, take the highest level of a course which is offered at your school, such as AP or honors.

- You are REQUIRED to take 4 years of English
- Social Studies
- It is best to take 4 years of social studies, which is usually required. You can always take additional social studies. Example:
- Cultures
- Sociology
- Psychology
- It is best to take 4 years of social studies, which is usually required. You can always take additional social studies. Example:
- Foreign Language
- Most colleges will look to see that you have taken at least 2 years of a foreign language, but some colleges require 3 years. Take any language you are interested in learning.
- Science
- It is best to take 4 years of science, although 3 years may be adequate.
- Earth & Space Science
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Alternatives are: Environmental Science, Anatomy, and Physiology
- Math
- It is best to take 4 years of college preparatory math, regardless of intended major.
- Algebra I
- Algebra II
- Geometry
- Trigonometry
- Calculus
- It is best to take 4 years of college preparatory math, regardless of intended major.
- Electives
- It is best to take electives that are also college preparatory or interest oriented. Do not take only the "easy" classes in order to increase your GPA.
