Geographic Information Science Minor

The geographic information science minor is a great complement to any major that focuses on people, money, resources or the environment in general.

What Will I Learn?

You will develop geospatial thinking, database and mapping skills. Beyond the strong core courses in GIS, you will have elective options that cover special topics in the field.

What are the requirements for this degree?

Geography majors are not permitted to take this minor.

It is expected that you have taken the prerequisite high school courses. In total, this minor consists of 18 credits.

What Types of Careers Could I Get With This Degree?

This minor can be useful for students pursuing careers in business, supply chain management and criminal justice. It is also appropriate for students in biology, computer science or other programs where spatial skills are critical for analyses.

What Kinds of Experiences Could I Have?

With several program options, laboratory facilities and partnerships with many of Pennsylvania’s most important organizations, Ship’s geography faculty are experienced in GIS. Expect to receive personalized attention while you learn in small classes.

You can a participate in a wide variety of student organizations that are closely connected with curriculum. These include Green League and the Campus Farm.
