Returning Student Housing Instructions
Returning students may be required to live in university housing:
Two-year Residence Requirement
Returning students can sign the “2024-2025 Returning Student Housing Agreement” in the MyHousing portal beginning on November 28, 2023. The Housing Office is currently waiving the $200 housing deposit until February 23, 2024. When required deposits can be paid via credit card or eCheck online. Housing deposits are non-refundable. If the housing agreement does not appear online email housing@ship.edu to request one.
Go to: MyShip, Student, Ship Life, Connect to MyHousing to sign the housing agreement. If you are exempt from the requirement, you can complete the Request for Exemption/Cancellation/Release of Housing Form if you have less than 60 credits by August 26, 2024. If you have more than 60 credits by August 25, 2024 and you do not sign a returning student housing agreement the Housing Office will assume you have made other plans and would not need to request an exemption.
Student who will graduate in December 2024, Spring 2024 study abroad assignment, or Spring 2024 student teaching, can submit a request for a special One Semester Fall 2024 Agreement online at: housing.ship.edu/forms.
You will receive an email at your Ship email account to use roommate matching software called MyCollegeRoomie after you complete your agreement and any required deposit. The software will post your matches in your MyHousing portal, or you can request roommate matches in the MyHousing portal directly. You must mutually match any roommates before selecting a room. Roommate matching should occur before room selection. Once you are mutually matched with another student/s any matching roommate who selects a room can pull the other matching roommate/s into the room, so be sure of your choice before you commit to a room/room type.
Room selection restart February 22, 2024 at 9:00 a.m., for rooms in Harley, Lackhove, Naugle, Seavers, and McLean Halls. The C, F, and E suites fill very quickly followed by the D and B units. This year 10 single occupancy rooms will be made available in McLean Hall for all returning students. The 5th floor of McLean Hall will be available for Junior or Senior status students (45 or more credits). This floor will offer 26 single rooms consisting of 13 female and 13 male students. The rooms on 5th floor in McLean will appear as a separate room selection for students who are eligible. Once these are filled students can request a single in McLean by using the form online at: housing.ship.edu, forms. The Housing Office recommends you select another room until single room requests are reviewed, and offers are made. At that point the students will be moved from the room they select to McLean Hall.
Room selection will be a must fill the suite until 3 p.m. on Feb. 22, 2024, so you will only see suites that will accommodate you and the appropriate number of matching roommates. If you only see a few rooms or no rooms at all it is because you don't have a roommate. After 3 p.m. on Feb. 22, 2024 all students will see all available vacancies. The Housing Office will make a few rooms available for students who don't have a matching roommate initially.
Room selections are considered final. Room changes are not processed once students are assigned, but if a student would like to be removed from the assignment to select again, please email housing@ship.edu with your specific request from your Ship email account. You are not guaranteed any specific building, room type, or roommate, but will be placed back in the room selection process to select again. After assignments are finalized, students will not be able to give up the room as most students will be assigned. Emails will be processed by the Housing Office first come first serve. Please do not call the Housing Office to check on the status of an email as this will further delay the time it will take to get back into the room selection process.
Students electing not to self-select a room should enter preferences, so an assignment can be made by Housing and Residence Life. Preferences will be honored to the extent possible based on available space. Your assignment will be made at the end of the process. You have the best opportunity to get the room type you want if you select the room yourself. There is no deadline to enter preferences but remember once you are assigned preferences will not be reviewed.
Students with less than 60 credits and are not approved for an exemption to the housing requirement will be given an assignment in “no assignment hall” until the agreement and deposit are paid. This will put a B suite housing charge on the bill. Once the agreement is completed the student will be assigned.
All housing information is stored in the MyHousing portal. This information is subject to change, so it is recommended students review the portal periodically for changes. The university reserves the right to make room assignments, temporary assignments, and consolidations.
Students not required to live in university housing can Request an exemption to confirm they are not required, Request to Cancel by June 1st, or Request to be Released from the housing agreement after June 1st.
The online request form is on the website at: Shippensburg University - Housing Forms.
