Student Conduct & Community Standards
Student Conduct & Community Standards is located in the Housing and Student Affairs Office, 210 Old Main. The office is responsible for addressing student misconduct that occurs during a student’s enrollment at Shippensburg University. Misconduct includes behavior that occurs on the campus and can include infractions outside the campus community. The office files and maintains incident reports, schedules and conducts meetings and hearings, and issues sanctions designed to promote positive behavior change. Student Conduct & Community Standards is supervised by the Director of Student Conduct & Community Standards, with the assistance of an administrative assistant and graduate assistant.
Philosophy of the Student Conduct System
The basic philosophy of discipline at Shippensburg University is based on education. The student conduct proceedings are not intended to be legalistic or punitive in nature. Rather, the procedure emphasizes the growth and development of each individual student and encourages a respect for the rights and privileges of others. The focus is on teaching students how to live harmoniously and productively within a diverse and dynamic academic community. As a result, it is hoped that students will develop better decision-making skills, a better understanding of their responsibilities to the Shippensburg community and increased personal insight.
