Statement of Financial Support For International Undergraduate & Graduate Students Academic Year 2025-2026
Who is required to complete this form?
Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania requires all applicants of foreign nationality who will be entering, or who has already entered the United States with a Student Visa to complete this Statement of Financial Support. If you currently hold a Green Card, an “H” class visa, an “L” class visa, an “E” class visa or an “A” class visa, you do not need to complete this form.
Why does Shippensburg University require me to complete this?
In accordance with the United States Federal Government, Shippensburg University requires all international applicants to provide proof of their ability to pay tuition and living expenses before Shippensburg University may issue a formal letter of admission. Once the applicant has been accepted and confirmed, Shippensburg University will issue the I-20 form which is required to apply for an F-1 student visa.
How do I obtain my I-20 Form?
Shippensburg University can issue the Form I-20 that is required to apply for a visa and to enter the United States as a First Year Student or to transfer a non-immigrant status visa to Shippensburg University from another institution. To be eligible for the I-20 form you must:
- Be admitted to the University.
- Submit the Statement of Financial Support, which demonstrates your ability to cover the duration of your academic program. You must include a bank statement and income verification from your
sponsor. - If you are currently attending college in the United States, you must submit a copy of your current I-20 Form and complete the SEVIS Transfer Form for International Students.

- Government funding sources
- Tax statements (Example, Tax Form W-2)
- Statement of annual earnings on company letterhead
Unacceptable Forms of Documentation
- Chartered account statements
- Payroll reports
- Expected income statements
- Credit cards
- Property assessments
- Other statements of non-liquid assets
What do I do if I have one or more dependents?
- Applicants who have one or more dependents must show financial support for each additional individual. This amount is in addition to the required “Estimate of Yearly Expenses.”
- Please see the “Estimate of Yearly Expenses” on left. These amounts are estimates and are subject to change based on the primary F-1 student’s tuition, fees, and cost of living. These estimates include an estimate for health insurance, the basic cost of housing, food, clothing, local transportation, etc.
- Individual consumption habits may impact the overall cost.

Please keep in mind:
- Each person providing the applicant with financial support must complete the Statement of Financial Support.
- Bank Statements should include the date the account was created, the account holder’s name and the account balance.
- The bank statement should be no older than 90 days when submitted.

*Please be aware that you will not be able to pay for your educational expenses by working while you are in the United States. The United States Federal Government regulations strictly limit employment authorization. Students in the U.S. on F-1 visas must be enrolled full-time every semester. (UG = 12-18 credits, Graduate = 6 or more credits)
Instructions
A source of support, which is to be given annually through the duration of the applicant’s program of study, can be demonstrated through the following:
- A bank statement (issued within the last 90 days) must be provided; all bank statements must be official and include the name of the sponsor as well as the dates for the statement.
- An earnings statement must be provided (annual, monthly or weekly earnings) from employer with sponsor’s name and address on it.
If you own your own business, you must provide details into the business as outlined below. - If you do not have a sponsor and are funding your education with your own resources, please complete Section II, Name of Sponsor and indicate your personal details. Provide all requested documents.
- If you have more than one sponsor, you must submit a Statement of Financial Support and all other required financial documents for each sponsor.
