The Graduate Success Center can help students who believe they may be enrolled in a major or program that is not right for them. Before completing the steps to declare or change your major, you should talk with the Program Coordinators of the program you are leaving and the program you wish to begin. You will need to consider how the change of major will affect your new program requirements and financial aid. To complete this change, follow the prompts in the link below, which will require you to sign in to your portal to access the form.
Declare/Change Undergraduate or Graduate Major/Minor/Other Credentials
You can transfer credit from other accredited graduate schools during the admissions process or after you are enrolled in your program. Transfer courses must be earned at the graduate level, appropriate for your degree program, listed on an official graduate transcript with a minimum grade of B, and earned within five years prior to the date you begin your graduate program.
Credit can also be earned by meeting specific learning outcomes by the assessment of professional experiences. You must consult your graduate program to identify eligible courses and credit requirements and their requirements for submitting evidence of prior learning experiences. No more than nine graduate credit hours toward a degree can be earned through any combination of coursework earned at another institution or through assessment of professional learning experiences. Evaluation of transfer credit and/or prior learning assessment is conducted by the academic department of the graduate degree program you are pursuing. Use the Student Procedure document below to learn the steps for submitting documentation for prior learning experiences and the PEC Form to submit the required documentation.
To appeal a grade, carefully read through the Grade Appeal Process document before you complete the appeal form.
If you are dismissed from your degree or professional certification program for academic reasons, you must apply for readmission after waiting one full semester. If you do not schedule any courses for 24 months, you will be placed on inactive status and must apply for readmission to continue your degree. To apply for readmission to a degree-granting program, submit the application form below with the application fee.

Prior Learning Assessment - Credit for Course Transfer and Professional Experiences
Shippensburg University may allow students to transfer credit from other accredited graduate schools either during the initial admissions process or program progression. Each graduate program should be consulted on which courses or requirements are eligible for transfer credit. Transfer courses must be earned at the graduate level and appropriate for the student’s degree program. To be evaluated for transfer credit, courses must be listed on an official graduate transcript with a final grade of B or higher. Credit earned more than five years prior to the date you begin your graduate program at Shippensburg does not qualify for transfer credit unless approved by the student’s department and The Graduate School.
Students may also be permitted to earn credit or have program requirements waived by meeting specific learning outcomes through assessment of professional experiences. Each graduate program should be consulted on which courses or requirements are eligible for credit through professional experience assessment. To receive credit, students will submit a detailed portfolio describing the experience for which credit is being requested. Some programs also have agreements with employers regarding eligibility for credit for specific professional experiences. The student may request a course outline or syllabus for the targeted course from the appropriate academic department chair for review in preparing the portfolio.
No more than nine graduate credit hours toward a degree can be earned through any combination of coursework earned at another institution or through assessment of professional experience. Evaluation of transfer credit and/or prior learning assessment is conducted by the academic department of the graduate degree program you are pursuing. Additional documentation, including catalog course descriptions, job descriptions, professional portfolio, etc., may be required to complete this process.
