Academic Requirements

Transfer students are evaluated on the basis of all work attempted at accredited institutions. A cumulative grade point average (GPA) is computed based on all work attempted above the developmental level.

A minimum college GPA of 2.0 and more than 12 course credits is preferred for admission. Students transferring with less than 12 college-level credits need to submit a high school transcript along with their college transcripts when applying. An admissions decision will be based on all criteria.

Some majors require prerequisite courses and/or a minimum GPA prior to transferring. Applicants who meet the criteria for admission, but who cannot be accommodated in the major of choice, will be permitted to select another major or defer admission until a later date.

A listing of all majors at SU, along with their pre-requisite requirements and additional notes, can be found here. Please contact the admissions office with any questions.

Documentation Requirements
Be sure to submit the following to the Admissions Office:

  • Official transcripts from ALL college/universities previously attended, regardless of performance
  • High School transcript if transferring with less than 12 college-level credits
  • $45 Application Fee

When to Apply
You should apply for admission no later than one semester prior to the semester in which you plan to attend. For some majors such as Criminal Justice, Business and Elementary Education, transfer students are encouraged to apply as early as a year in advance.

Application Deadline
Shippensburg University uses a rolling admissions deadline, which means you may apply at any time prior to the start of the semester in which you plan to enroll. However, it is recommended that you complete your application by December 1 for the Spring semester and August 1 for the Fall semester.  Please be aware that space is limited in some majors and applying early is the best way to ensure a seat in your degree program. Contact Admissions for specific dates.

Acceptance Status
Application review takes 1-3 weeks after receiving all required application materials. The Admissions Office will notify you by e-mail once a decision has been made. You can also check your Application Status online.
