Profile
Prior to his arrival at Shippensburg, Dr. Lichtman taught as a visiting professor at several different schools, including Boston University, Dickinson College, and the University of Vermont. A self-described "recovering lawyer," Dr. Lichtman is the co-editor of Judging Free Speech: First Amendment Jurisprudence of US Supreme Court Justices. His other work has appeared in the Maryland Law Review, the Penn State Law Review, Vingtième Siècle Revue d'Histoire, the Pennsylvania Lawyer, and the newsletter of the Law and Courts section of the American Political Science Association.
Dr. Lichtman has been the Executive Director of the New England Political Science Association since 2015. Prior to becoming the inaugural person to hold that position, he served as Program Chair of the NEPSA conference in 2012, 2014, and 2015. In addition, in 2024 Dr. Lichtman was elected as the 2nd Vice President of the Northeast Association of Pre-Law Advisors; he will eventually serve as NAPLA President and Program Chair of their annual conference.
As Shippensburg’s Pre-Law Advisor, Dr. Lichtman invites any students who are considering law school to come to his pre-law office hours. In addition to one-on-one student consultations, he holds an annual Pre-Law Information Session each fall, and also schedules other Pre-Law events throughout the academic year.
While an undergraduate at Brandeis University, Dr. Lichtman co-founded a campus sketch comedy troupe (“Boris’ Kitchen”) , and he rejoined that troupe for a couple of years when he returned to Brandeis to pursue his doctorate. He is also an enthusiastic pool player, and plays in a weekly A.P.A. league in Frederick, Maryland.
