Prospective Substitute Teacher Program (PA Act 86)

Students currently enrolled in a teacher preparation program in a college or university in Pennsylvania can participate in the Prospective Substitute Teacher Program (PA Act 86).  Before requesting a letter the following criteria must be met:

  • You have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours
  • You have been formally admitted into the Teacher Preparation Program (see "Steps to Become a Teacher", "Candidacy Status", formal admission form)

Letter of Eligibility

Students who are currently student teaching may request a Letter of Eligibility, which can be used as a placeholder for your degree/certification when applying for employment. Be advised of the requirements to obtain PA State Certification before a request for this letter is made.  This includes appropriate certification testing and opening an account on TIMS.
