ROTC Scholarships

There are many scholarship opportunities for ROTC students that assist with many of the financial obligations of a college education.

Benefits

Full tuition and fees (either in or out of state) or housing and food
Can be used in conjunction with other scholarships
$1200 per year book allowance
Monthly allowance of $420 while attending class
Commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army upon graduation, with service in the Active Duty Army, Army Reserves, or Army National Guard
Marketable leadership skills and experience

Commitment

There is an eight year service commitment, which can be served in the following ways:

At least four years on Active Duty, with the remainder served as a part-time officer in the National Guard or Army Reserves
At least four years on Active Duty, with the remainder served in the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR)
Eight years of part-time service in the Army Reserves or Army National Guard

National High School Scholarships

High school seniors and soon-to-be seniors can apply for an ROTC scholarship. Students are eligible to apply for the four year National High School Scholarship beginning in the June before their senior year. There are three scholarship boards that meet in October, January and March to decide who gets a scholarship.

After filling out the online portion, you will be asked to send a copy of your high school transcripts and test scores (ACT or SAT) to Cadet Command at Fort Knox. You will also take a physical fitness assessment at your school, which consists of one minute of pushups, one minute of sit ups and a one mile run. Finally, you will have a personal interview with an ROTC professor of military science.

Requirements

Must be a United States Citizen
Cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 1000 (math/verbal) on the SAT or 19 (excluding the required writing test scores) on the ACT
Meet Department of Defense physical fitness standards
Agree to serve as a commissioned officer after graduation

Campus Based Scholarships

Cadets without a contract have the opportunity to compete for Campus Based Scholarships that range from 2 to 4 years. A cadet's academics, physical fitness and leadership potential are considered in deciding the recipients of these scholarship. Current students or those planning to attend Shippensburg University, Wilson College or Penn State Mont Alto may compete for full-tuition ROTC scholarships. Students do not need to be enrolled in ROTC to apply, but if offered a scholarship are required to enroll in the following semester. These scholarships are competitive and can cover up to four years of college. Applications can be submitted year round to the Military Science Department.

Requirements

Must be a United States citizen
Under age 32 when you graduate
Have a minimum college GPA of 2.50
No felonies or domestic violence convictions
Have no moral or personal conviction against bearing arms or supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States

After an initial review, applicants may be scheduled for a medical examination and a personal interview with a board of officers.
