What is ROTC?

• The Reserve Officer Training Corps is a series of elective courses you take along with your college major that prepares you to become an officer in the US Army.

By enrolling in ROTC are you joining the Army?

• No. You are, however, preparing for a career as a military officer.

If I take ROTC can I be in sports (or band, SGA, fraternity/etc.)?

• Yes! Everything that’s available to Shippensburg students is not only permitted, but encouraged for Cadets!

What can students expect to learn by taking ROTC?

• The leadership and management skills needed to become a US Army officer: planning, decision-making, time management, analytical skills, effective communication, motivation and more.

Is there a military obligation for enrolling in Military Science?

• No. ROTC cadets do not have to commit to any military obligation (unless accepting an ROTC scholarship) during the first two years of the program.

Does ROTC offer scholarships?

• Yes! Shippensburg ROTC brings in over $395,000 worth of scholarship money for cadets. These scholarships cover tuition and fees, plus a $1200/year book allowance and a stipend of $300 to $500 per month.
