Benefits of Army ROTC

ROTC programs offer prospective and current college students several benefits, including:

 
  • An opportunity to develop technical and leadership skills
  • A structured path to a career after college
  • Specialized professional training for military officer positions after college
  • Scholarships that cover tuition, fees, books, and other student necessities
  • Long-term career guidance and continued professional education

ROTC Scholarships

  • Pays 100% of tuition and mandatory fees (either resident or non-resident rates), or housing and food (for on- or off-campus housing) 
  • Annual book allowance of $1,200
  • Subsistence allowances (see below)

Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP)

SMP - Army National Guard

  • State Education Assistance Program (EAP) up to $6,622 per year
  • Chapter 1606 GI Bill of $362 per month (after Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training)
  • GI Bill kicker ($350 per month)
  • Drill pay at the E-5 rate ($290 per month)
  • Assigned to an Officer Trainee position in their units
  • Non-deployable status

SMP - Army Reserves

  • Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) up to $4500 a year
  • Chapter 1606 GI Bill of $362 per month (after Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training)
  • GI Bill kicker ($350 per month)
  • Drill pay at the E-5 rate ($290 per month)
  • Assigned to an Officer Trainee position in their units
  • Non-deployable status

Subsistence Allowance ("Stipend")

  • ROTC pays a monthly tax free stipend to all contracted members. The $420 allowance is paid for each month of the school year (August through May)

Critical Language Incentive Bonus

  • Students earn up to $2500 per year for studying one of 32 "critical" languages
  • Fully funded semester abroad opportunities for language majors
  • Paid summer internships (approx. 30 days in a foreign country)

Summer Training Opportunities

Each summer selected cadets have the opportunity to attend:

  • Airborne School
  • Air Assault School
  • Mountain Warfare School
  • Northern Warfare School
  • Others

Other Benefits

  • Options of Active Duty, National Guard or Army Reserve service as an officer after graduation
