Career Readiness

Entering into the workforce  can feel daunting, but the Shippensburg University Career Center has a variety of resources for students in our educator preparation programs.

Job Searches

In order to make these resources more easily accessible, request a Handshake account as soon as you are able. The Career Center has many other resources under "Finding Opportunities & Employers" as well as "Network & Connect" available so that you can access the most education-relevant job listings.

Resumes & Cover Letters

Prior to student teaching, you will be asked to create and submit a resume to the Career Center.  The "Create a Resume" section under the "Career Planning" navigation title has templates appropriate for all educator preparation program students.

Brand new to you is the University's access to VMock - an AI based program that helps you build a resume from a template, helping you to build a functional and relevant resume that will stand out in a crowd.

This section also includes other valuable resources which will help to ensure you are ready for interviews and application submissions.

Interview Preparation

Through Big Interview, students can practice their interview skills by responding to pre-recorded questions with their webcams. There are many interviews on the website, so students can choose one relevant to their major or the position they are applying for. After completing the interview, students will receive feedback from a Career Center staff member, and can schedule an appointment to review and practice answers in person.

Professional Dress

The Raider Ready Professional Dress Closet (RRPDC) at Shippensburg University is housed and managed by the Career Center. The RRPDC offers inclusive wardrobe options to all students as they prepare for professional meetings, such as interviews, internships, job shadow programs, career/job fairs, and more. The goal of the RRPDC is to help students make the best possible impression and feel confident during a professional meeting without having to worry about how to afford it.

The Raider Ready Professional Dress Closet is located inside the Ceddia Union Building (CUB), room 108. Any currently enrolled, undergraduate and graduate, Ship student can visit the closet during posted hours or by appointment, and must present their valid SU ID card. With the assistance of the Career Center staff, students may help themselves to a limited number of clothing items per semester. This service is available to students at no charge. CVR Uniforms located in downtown Shippensburg will offer dry cleaning services to Ship students who utilize the RRPDC at significantly reduced rates.  Students may be asked to provide feedback on their experience.

*The Raider Ready Professional Dress Closet cannot guarantee the availability of all sizes, and is not responsible for laundering clothing donations.
