Sociology Careers
Because sociology is the scientific study of social relationships, it provides a valuable foundation for many professions and careers. Graduates of our program who enter the job market with a bachelor's degree are most likely to work in human services, criminal justice, business, and local and state government.

Our success parallels national studies. According to the American Sociological Association, about 1/4 of sociology graduates enter social service occupations, 20% enter administrative and management-related jobs often in government, 10% are in sales, marketing and public relations types of jobs, and others are in diverse additional fields.

Graduate School
Nationally, about 20% of sociology majors purse a graduate degree immediately after graduation. A small percentage continue in Sociology, and they are most likely to pursue careers in social research, program evaluation, public policy, and teaching. Most of our students who do graduate work use Sociology as an excellent liberal arts base for advanced study in an applied field such as Masters in Social Work, Counseling, Organizational Development and Leadership, and Public Health. We have had students recently admitted to programs at, for example: Texas Tech, George Mason, and University of Rochester.

Anthropology Careers
The anthropology minor combines well with almost any major. Students have found it to be valuable in preparation for careers in international business, counseling, government, and research. Cross-cultural interaction is increasingly common, both within our diverse American population and with people abroad. Anthropology is a field designed to make such human interaction easier and more successful.
