Physics Department
Shippensburg University’s Physics Department is ready to engage you with its quality programs in Physics, Applied Physics, and Physics Education. We welcome students that believe in themselves and the hard work it takes to succeed.
If you have any questions about us or our programs, please feel free to contact the department chair. You can reach the department office at (717) 477-1570, or visit us on campus in the Franklin Science Center (FSC). The department office is located in FSC 215B.
Physics Resources
The American Institute of Physics (AIP) offers quite a bit of information on current trends in physics, and the role physics can play in modern society. It is also home to a host of professional physics societies, many of which are listed below.
- Acoustical Society of America
- American Association of Physicists in Medicine
- American Association of Physics Teachers
- American Astronomical Society
- American Crystallographic Association
- American Physical Society
- Optics Net, a service of the Optical Society of America
The AIP is also home to the Society of Physics Students, a group promoting the development and interests of students in the sciences - primarily Physics.
Other Sites of Interest
Here's a great site for astronomical images and links to other Astro sites: the SEDS site. By the way, SEDS stands for "Students for the Exploration and Development of Space."
More:
- American Journal of Physics
- IEEE: Advanced Technology for Humanity (Electrical Engineering)
- SPIE: International Society for Optics and Photonics (Photonics: almost everything related to light.)
Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will be able to apply physics knowledge to problems arising in physics and related fields.
- Students will be able to understand the broad impact of scientific solutions in a global and societal context.
