Interdisciplinary Arts
The Interdisciplinary Arts major at Shippensburg University is the only one of its kind in Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education. It’s an ideal major for students who want to get a comprehensive understanding of the arts and their interrelationships.
The program offers coursework in both arts performance and criticism across a broad range of media including painting, sculpture, dance, music, theatre, film, photography and creative writing. Students are encouraged to think and communicate critically. They become familiar with the communicative characteristics of multiple art forms and can navigate the waters of verbal, visual, musical and performative expression.
Graduates find themselves working in a variety of careers in applied arts and associated careers that intersect with them, such as arts education and administration. The flexibility of the program allows students to tailor their educational experience to their goals. For example, students may pair the major with a minor in psychology for a career oriented toward art or music therapy. Others may find a communications or business minor suitable for interests in special events planning.
