Continuous Improvement
The John L. Grove College of Business is committed to continuous improvement in student learning. Our model for continuous improvement of student learning is based on Deming’s cycle of four repetitive steps, “plan-do-check-act.” Using Deming’s cycle as a Kaizen principle, we focus on “improvement” in students’ achievement of our learning goals and objectives.
Using Deming’s cycle for improvement, faculty:
- Plan – analyze students’ achievement of learning objectives, and plan how to close any gaps
- Do – implement the plan to close the gap
- Check – check to see how well the plan worked and for negative consequences
- Act – if plan was successful, then put controls in place; if plan was not successful, then go to Plan step
We believe that continuous improvement in student learning leads to a brighter future for our students.
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA)
Program Learning Goals
Possess a base knowledge in core business processes in the following areas:
- Accounting Principles, Managerial Accounting, Financial Management, Information Technology, Business Statistics, Business Law, Principles of Marketing, Organizational Behavior, Business & Society, Supply Chain & Operations Management, and Strategic Management
Possess the ability to use the basic tools of business including statistics, computers, and technology
- Demonstrate an understanding of the integrative nature of information technology and familiarity with current information technology
- Demonstrate the ability to employ skills in data organize, analysis and presentation
- Demonstrate the ability to use statistical inferential methods for decision making
Possess a basic understanding of the economic, legal, ethical, and global context of business
- Demonstrate an understanding of basic legal terminology, property rights, agency law, and legal analysis process
- Demonstrate the ability to identify, analyze and decide on an ethical course of action
- Demonstrate base knowledge in micro and macro economics
- Demonstrate an understanding of the effects of globalization and cultural environments on business communities

Possess an appreciation of the behaviors and dynamics of effective leadership
- Develop an appreciation the behaviors and dynamics of effective leadership: recognize/define effective leadership including the ethical dimension, comprehend the major themes in leadership research, and understand leadership competencies
Possess an understanding of the international context of business
- Demonstrate an understanding of the international context of business: comprehend issues of globalization; political, economic, legal, and cultural environments; international trade; foreign direct investment; and foreign exchange
Possess the ability to think critically and strategically
- Demonstrate the ability to think critically and strategically: accurately interpret information, analyze and evaluate issues, draw logical conclusions and develop appropriate recommendations, link finding to the achievement of organizational mission and objectives.
