Shippensburg University Academic Master Plan

Our university’s previous Academic Master Plan (AMP) had been unchanged since 2013. Since 2013, the composition of Academic Affairs has evolved with particular strategic goals assigned to functional areas within our division. The attached version of the AMP was developed to align with the 2021-2024 University Strategic Plan and is intended for the 2024 and 2025 academic years. By the Spring of 2026, the Shippensburg University Strategic Plan should be updated and another revision of the AMP should be developed at that time. In part, this AMP will help prepare Shippensburg University for Middle States Reaccreditation and focuses particularly on strategies specific to sustaining and retaining enrollments. It should be used as a springboard from which future AMPs might be developed. In some instances, objectives and strategies are directly measurable, but there is no known or tracked baseline or benchmark. In other instances, objectives and strategies could be measured, but are not yet measured. Thus, future revisions of the AMP should build on and extend this plan with further refined goals, objectives, and measures, as appropriate.

A committee of seven faculty members (at least one from each college and one representative from APSCUF-SU), the Associate Provost, and the Executive Director of Institutional Research were tasked by the Provost with drafting this AMP (please reference membership list below). The goals, objectives, and potential strategies were each developed through an iterative process of looking backward to the last AMP, considering our strengths and weaknesses today, and looking ahead to anticipated needs tomorrow.

Throughout this process the committee sought to:

  1. Simplify and prioritize (for the next two years) the Academic Master Plan to increase its usefulness to Academic Affairs;
  2. Align the objectives and strategies discriminately between the goals;
  3. Ensure that all objectives are measurable, as much as possible at this stage;
  4. Ensure that all recommended/potential strategies drive progress toward its objective;
  5. Align the AMP with the University Strategic Plan 2021-2024.
