Frequently Asked Questions

Universities have a long-standing tradition of holding inauguration ceremonies for their new presidents. Inaugurations accomplish several goals, including providing the institution an opportunity to reaffirm historic commitments, introducing the community (campus, local, academic) to the new president, and providing institutional visibility. 

All members of the Shippensburg Community – alumni, faculty, staff, and students – plus government leaders, official delegates from other colleges and institutions, the Council of Trustees, and special guests of the President.

The ceremony is expected to last approximately 1 ½ hours.  A reception will follow immediately afterwards on the first floor of the Ceddia Union Building (CUB). There are no reservations necessary for the reception – all are welcome. A livestream option will be available on the inauguration website found here.

SU administrators, current and retired faculty, and institutional delegates who will participate in the processional will have reserved seats. All other seats will be open and filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Classes are not suspended. Faculty will use their discretion to determine the modality of classes to allow for participation.

Those individuals who regularly march for convo­cation and commencement are invited to wear full academic regalia, caps and gowns, and march in the procession.

The delegate groups represented in the procession are delegates from other educational institutions, current and retired faculty, President’s Cabinet, the Executive Management Team, the Council of Trustees, PASSHE Presidents, and the platform party.

Retired faculty have the option to participate in the processional. Should they opt not to process, there is reserved seating available.
