Link Functionality

If you want your website to be accessible to all users, you must make sure that you have functional links. When using your website, the user expects the links they click on to work the way they are supposed to. Broken links on your site are a surefire way to frustrate users and can cause them to never come back to your website. Web developers must consider different types of links when they are creating a site.

Broken Links

Broken links are links that are not working properly. Clicking on a broken link will take you to an error page or a page not found page. To fix a broken link, you will have to locate the correct page or multimedia file in Episerver. See the Editor's Guide PDF for more information on Episervers different features.

To link to a page on the website, select the page option in the Create link box and post the page you’re looking for from the page tree.

Media - Links to images, documents and other media files stored on the web server. Images and documents must first be available in the media folder to be able to display them in the content area.

Email - Links to create an email message with the linked email address entered. To fix broken email links, copy and paste the correct email into the email section.

External - Links content on other websites or media on file shares. To link a page to another website, select an external link and copy and paste the sites URL

Anchor - Links to sections within a page, allowing readers to jump between topics on a page.

Skip Navigation Links

Skip navigation links are necessary for accessibility because they allow keyboard-only users or people with assistive technology to have easy access to information on a website. Skip navigation allows users who cannot use a computer mouse the capability to reach the content they are looking for in a short amount of time. Users with mobility or visual impairments will significantly benefit from skip navigation.

  • To link to a section on the same page, insert an anchor from the toolbar and enter the name for the anchor.
  • The skip navigation link should always be at the top of the page which makes it easy for anyone to find.
