Class Size Recommendations
Pursuant of proposal 19-188: UCC Class Size Policy, the University Curriculum Committee (UCC) initiated protocols for considering the appropriateness of class size within the curriculum approval and revision process. Using the template proposed in 19-188, departments and programs provided class size recommendations and rationale for each course governed by their department/program. If the department/program did not provide recommendations, a formula was used to calculate a cap based on previous enrollments. The spreadsheet linked below represents the collection of those recommendations. The spreadsheet will be updated yearly after all the proposals are fully processed for the academic year by the UCC.
Notes:
- The university administration has final approval of course caps. These recommendations represent faculty voice on class sizes based on data, classroom needs, pedagogical considerations, and field expertise.
- The class size recommendations apply to face-to-face course sections only.
- UCC will make recommendations about course caps for online course sections after reviewing assessment data from the DE Pilot Extension (proposal 24-1111)
