Overview
The content area is the primary location of all your course content. Here you can guide your students through the various items you wish them to interact with. You can build your entire course right from the content area by uploading content or creating new items using the various option on the Content page. In this guide we will provide a brief overview of the content page and what each area of it is.
NOTE: It's worth noting that while you can create items such as Assignment folders and quizzes right from the content area you may need to return to those specific tools to access settings that may not be available from the creation window in the content area.
Intended Audience: Faculty
Navigating the Course Content Interface
1. Click the Content button located in the Course Navigation bar (navbar). Note: You'll need to navigate to one of your classes first in Brightspace before you'll see the course navbar.
2. The image below shows an example of what you're course content area may look like.
Table of Contents / Modules: The Table of Contents contains an outline of all the content modules in your course. You can access each module by clicking on it in this window. If the module contains sub-modules then the table of contents will expand to reveal the sub-modules. Once you've selected the module you'd like to access, you'll then be able to view the content topics on the right hand side in the Main Content Area.
Module Creation: You can create a new module by clicking here and typing the name of the module. You can create a sub-module by clicking on a module and then clicking "Add a sub-module" in the main content area.
Main Content Area: The Main Content Area is where your students will access all the content of the course. In the example above we have clicked on the "Start Here" module from the Table of Contents and we can see the content topics in the Start Here Module. This module contains a word document, a content page or html page, and an assignment folder.
Content Creation: These two buttons allow you to create content in your modules. If you're creating something new or uploading a file then you'll want to select "Upload / Create" and then choose what you'd like to do. You can create quizzes, assignment folders, discussions, links, etc. If you have already created items like quizzes or assignment folders either through the course admin area or you've imported the items, then you'll want to choose "Existing Activity" and then select the item you wish to pick from. This will then open up all you're created objects for that tool and allow you to select them.
Course Calendar / Events: Click here to access the course calendar where you can create events that your students will see. Most tools will automatically create a calendar event based on the availability dates / due dates you setup.
Bookmarks: Clicking here will take you to your bookmarks page. You can bookmark specific topics in the content area for easy access in the future and anything you bookmark will be shown here. You can bookmark any topic by clicking on the topic and clicking on the banner icon in the top right hand corner.
