Raider Ship

A raider ship is a fast and lightly armed privateer commissioned by governments to serve as a raider against enemies. This Shippensburg Raider Ship slices through the water, sails billowing with the power of the wind, always moving onward.

Big Red 

Big Red, the red-tailed hawk (no, they’re not a parrot), is the captain of our Raider Ship! They were selected as the university mascot during a mascot madness competition in 2005. They sport a tri-corn hat, Raider gear and can be spotted at a variety of university events. Follow Big Red on Instagram! 

Shippo the Hippo 

Shippo the Hippo is Big Red’s first mate and the secondary mascot of Shippensburg University.  Shippo was the runner up during the 2005 mascot madness competition. Urban legend has it Shippo actually won! After an April Fool’s joke in 2023 proclaimed Shippo as the rightful winner—and a lot of positive feedback—Shippo was named first mate!
