The Office of Accessibility Resources

Welcome to the Office of Accessibility Resources at Shippensburg University! Located at 252 Mowrey Hall, our hours of operation are 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday. [Please note that we close at 4:00pm during spring, summer, and winter breaks.]

The Office of Accessibility Resources at Shippensburg University uses a web-based services platform called Accommodate  to provide services to registered students with accommodations. Students currently registered with the Office of Accessibility Resources can access to Accommodate at https://ship-accommodate.symplicity.com/.

If you are an incoming or current student who is not yet registered with our office but would like to request accommodations, please complete an Accommodation Request Form. 

Shippensburg University is committed to serving all students, including those with disabilities. The Office of Accessibility Resources coordinates accommodations and services for students with documented disabilities in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008. The Office of Accessibility Resources works with other departments and university students to lay the foundation of equal educational access to otherwise qualified individuals. Additionally, the office works in conjunction with the Human Resources Office to provide accommodations to university faculty and staff with documented disabilities.

Examples of disabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Learning Disability (e.g., dyslexia, dysgraphia, reading/math disability, etc.)
  • Medical/health (e.g., cardiac disease, diabetes, arthritis, cancer, seizure disorder, etc.)
  • ADHD
  • Physical / Mobility (ambulatory, wheelchair)
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Emotional/Psychological diagnoses (e.g., Generalized Anxiety Disorder, PTSD, Bipolar Disorder, etc.)
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Visual Impairment including Blindness
  • Hearing Impairment including Deafness
  • Temporary disabilities - disabilities existing only for a short period of time (6-months or less) as a result of injuries, surgery, or short-term medical conditions

Mission Statement

The Office of Accessibility Resources is committed to guiding students with documented disabilities in utilizing their academic potential in a university environment. By providing direction, offering resources, and coordinating appropriate accommodations based on federal laws, regulations, and individual need, department administration and staff encourage and support self-advocacy among students served. Being student-centered in nature, the department strives to convey a vision for academic success and a goal of developing confident, independent, life-long student learners.
