IDDS Workshop Schedule

IDDS offers a wide variety of workshops. If the time of the workshop does not fit your schedule, please contact us for a one-to-one appointment!

 Homepages

Instructors can create a personal Homepage in Desire2Learn.  A personal homepage allows instructors to share personal information, history, and interests with members of all classes.   There are two ways to create a personal homepage: using Desire2Learn's HTML Editor, or by uploading an already-existing web page that was created using other web editing software.

Creating A Homepage

Creating Your Homepage: HTML Editor Option

This option is a two-step process--

(1) Create the HTML file

(2) Edit the Page.  

The HTML Editor for homepages allows instructors to use both Design and HTML views to create the page. HTML view requires use of HTML code.  For more information, refer to A Summary of HTML Codes.

  1. In the My Shippensburg Courses widget, click any course. The Course Home page appears.
  2. In the Welcome Box widget, click HOMEPAGE home page 1
  3. Click the NEW button home page 2The "Explorer User Prompt" dialog box appears.

  4. In the text box, type a name for the homepage file. The default extension will be .html.  Change the extension to .htm by adding ".htm" after typing name.
  5. Click the OK button. The file will be added to the My Homepage pane.
  6. To edit homepage (i.e., to add content)
    1. In the "My Homepage" pane, go to desired file and click EDIT edit button  The HTML Editor appears.
    2. Add text and images to the page. For more information, refer to "Using HTML Editor."
  7. When finished adding text and images, click the SAVE button.
  8. Click CLOSE. The system returns to the "My Homepage" pane.
  9. To designate this file as a homepage, click MAKE THIS MY HOMEPAGE home page 4This file is set as homepage.

Creating Your Homepage: Existing File Option

If desired, instructors can create a homepage in a web editor such as Dreamweaver, then upload the file to Desire2Learn.

  1. In the My Shippensburg Courses widget, click any course. The Course Home page appears.
  2. In the Welcome Box widget click HOMEPAGE home page 1The "My Homepage" pane appears.
  3. In the My Homepage section, click UPLOAD home page 5 The "File Upload" dialog box appears.

  4. In the File text box, type the path and filename of the file.
    OR Select the file:
    1. Click BROWSE...The "Choose file" dialog box opens.
    2. Using the Look in pull-down menu, select the file.
    3. Click OPEN. The system returns to the "File Upload" dialog box.
  5. Click the UPLOAD button. The file is added to the "My Homepage" pane.
  6. To designate the file as a homepage, click MAKE THIS MY HOMEPAGE home page 4This file is set as the homepage.

Viewing a Students' Homepage

  1. On the Course Home page navigation bar, click the CLASSLIST list. The list of class members appears.
  2. Next to the student's name, click the VIEW HOMEPAGE link. home page 1 That student's homepage appears.

Deleting a Homepage

  1. In the My Shippensburg Courses widget click any course. The Course Home page appears.
  2. In the Welcome Box widget click HOMEPAGE home page 1 The My Homepage pane appears.
  3. Next to the file, click the DELETE button trashcan A confirmation dialog box appears.
  4. Click OK. The homepage file is deleted.
